My Friend Soumi

Posted: June 29, 2009 in Thoughts

Friends foreverI wrote this blog to tell my Best friend how much she means to me. I have never been good at telling her, so I thought that a blog would be the best way. Soumi is my oldest school friend. It’s 20 years that we have been friends. Although this journey doesn’t seem to be “a long 20 years”. When ever I think about you, it brings a smile to my pretty face… (lol). A lot of gold old times…we share.. I remember how we held each other’s hand and queued for the annual results and sections allotment… we always wanted to be in the same section. We were practically best pals. Recalling the past, we were always in an expedition mode. We chased each other in the corridors and portico in the breaks.. and returned to class panting for breath. We had lunch in classrooms (rainy days), corridors, under the trees, steps and above all – playgrounds. She carried almost the same Tiffin everyday and complaining about the same became a customary. We used to wait for Teacher’s Day, Children’s Day and flaunt our best dresses… (haha.!!) Those days the school campus would be decorated with all the colors.. kids wearing pretty dresses and playing around… it was so much fun. We waited for PT, drawing , Singing , Supw classes more eagerly than the monsoons… but sad they were once in a week though. She is an impromptu speaker and always came up with weird stories.. “ Brinjal” story… “Thumbalina” and some sequel of Evil dead… (the best part though).. and poor me, always believed in her stories. I still remember how she used to describe ‘her man of dreams’ Rhett Butler (hero in Gone With The Wind) and take pride in her little discovery of a handsome man. I still laugh how she complained about her mom.. who used to change her PT dress from white to light blue(hehehehe!!). We learnt, We enjoyed, We played, We won, We lost, We laughed, We cried, We fought, We thought… and did what not.

We would talk about a lot of things (don’t remember what). We had a lot of things in common. We even shared our dreams. Those were just a part of the memorable moments we had. I have always counted on her, no matter what. I had always felt that she will be there for me. She helped me through my problems, through things good and bad. She always tried to keep me smiling, amidst all odds. She helped me to stay strong.

Indeed, we had a lot of memorable moments we shared for a long time. Now that we have been far from each other, I miss her so much. But I know that we will always be the best pals.

Flashing your dainty, disarming smile,
warms my heart every once in a while.
Our longtime kinship
will always bloom with friendship.

It has never been so profound,
a lifetime friend have I found.
Let our friendship be a bond,
which can never be like a dry pond.

Let us not forget the dreams we share,
forever like sisters  we care.
You’ll always be a friend to me,
and that’s the way it should be.
